About – Red Carousel Blog

I’m Wynona, founder of Red Carousel party boutique and author of this blog. I live in sunny Singapore with my wonderful husband and two beautiful girls, Ivy and Poppy. We believe we are blessed and privileged to call both Singapore and Australia home.

I have always been known as the “crafty” one in the group; having a love of textiles, textures, crafts and design. It started when I was only three years old. I remember sitting with my grandmother and learning how to sew. I was instantly hooked. Around the age of seven, my aunt taught me how to knit. High school brought lessons in textiles and discovering the sewing machine.

My love of crafting continued through university and work; learning crochet, decoupage, quilting, pottery, painting and more. After I had my first baby, I launched a handmade clothing label called Ivy Designs, stocked in various boutiques around the world. In Australia, I taught sewing for Notebook Magazine and I have had craft patterns published in various books and magazines. More recently, I have taken courses in cake decorating, graphic design and photography. You’ll find some of my cake tutorials on the fabulous Cakejournal blog.

My love affair with parties was ignited when I put together my daughter’s 5th birthday party. I was in my element crafting all the bits and pieces, making the cake, cooking the food, assembling the decorations, sewing the birthday outfit (with pink polka dot fabric, of course). Watching it all come together on the day was incredible. I felt the love and excitement – from children to adults – each relaxing and enjoying themselves.

During all the planning and purchasing for the party, I noticed a distinct lack of stylish partyware in Singapore. Majority of the items I wanted to use for the event, had to be purchased from Australia, U.S., U.K. and other countries. It was frustrating.

I decided to take my frustrations and turn it into a positive; I wanted to bring it all to Singapore! Many months and late nights later, here we are. You can read more about the beginnings of Red Carousel here, at my first blog post.

Welcome to Red Carousel, my whimsical world of colours, balloons, sweet treats, polka dots and enchanted events and occasions. I hope you enjoy the ride!
